2 more college football games canceled due to Covid-19

The Annapolis, Md., Military Bowl, featuring Boston College and East Carolina University, will not be played on Monday, officials said. The first Fenway Bowl in Boston between the University of Virginia and Southern Methodist University, which had been set for Wednesday, will not be either.

The Sun Bowl featuring the Miami Hurricanes and Washington State Cougars were looking for a new team to participate on Sunday after the University of Miami said it was pulling out due to Covid-19 protocols.

Boston College did not have enough players available due to an increase in Covid-19 cases, athletics director Pat Kraft said.

“Unfortunately, due to the increase in Covid-19 cases in our schedule since our arrival, as well as end-of-season injuries, strikeouts and transfers, we just don’t have enough players to field a team, ”Kraft said. “We are disappointed that we cannot complete the season together as a team, but the health and safety of our program is our top priority.”

The Military Bowl Parade and the Military Bowl Tailgate Festival, scheduled for Monday morning, are also canceled.
