MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA., September 21, 2021 / PRNewswire / – El Camino Health is using its Community Benefits program to provide foundational support to local health initiatives by investing $ 3.5 million in grants and sponsorships in fiscal 2022.

“We are delighted to provide continued support to our community benefit recipients who have overcome unique challenges as the pandemic continues,” said Dan Woods, CEO of El Camino Health, “We have strong ties to the communities we serve, and the programs and services provided by beneficiaries are more important than ever.”

As El Camino Health turns 60e anniversary, it continues to act on the belief that a healthy community benefits everyone. Each fiscal year, the Community Benefits Program allocates crucial funding to health services outside of El Camino Health with the mission of expanding access to health care across the barriers of age, education and income levels through grants and sponsorships. Since 2007, El Camino Health has contributed nearly $ 823 million dollars in community benefits, which also include financial assistance and subsidized health services.

“The El Camino Health Essential Grant supports our multilingual roles – English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish and Vietnamese – of Medical Assistant (MA) and Patient Navigator (PN) in our San jose clinics, ”said Sarita Kohli, President and CEO of Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), one of El Camino Health’s 44 granting partners. “These important team members provide services in the first language of patients, serving as the first point of contact for the safe and timely clinical care we provide to low-income individuals and families.”

The AACI is an example of the essential grant partners supported by El Camino Health’s Community Benefits program. AACI’s federally accredited health center (FQHC) provides integrated primary care and behavioral health services to low-income and / or immigrant individuals and families through Santa Clara County in two clinics San jose. 72 percent of AACI patients also have little or no English proficiency and are best served in a language other than English.

Every three years, El Camino Health works with other local nonprofit hospitals and health systems to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (ECS). This informs the implementation strategy and the grant making process. The most recent evaluation illustrated the need to prioritize programs addressing issues such as access and delivery of health care, diabetes and obesity, behavioral health, cognitive decline, domestic violence, oral health and economic and housing stability.

El Camino Hospital Board of Directors approved funding for 44 programs to be supported in fiscal 2022, which include school districts, nonprofits, safety net clinics and agencies community services. Each of the selected programs is dedicated to meeting the health needs of underserved and vulnerable community members in Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, San jose, Saint Clare and Saratoga.
