Fetter Health Care Network to Participate in COVID-19 Therapeutic Program

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The federal government has selected Fetter Health Care Network to participate in the COVID-19 Therapeutics program, allowing providers to administer oral antiviral drugs to patients with COVID-19.

Fetter’s selection to participate in the COVID-19 therapeutic program comes after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued emergency use authorization. Fetter plans to start administering the drug orally on January 19.

“Our top priority right now is to ensure that underserved communities impacted by COVID-19 have easy access to FDA-cleared or approved COVID-19 oral antiviral pills,” said Aretha Powers, DHA , CEO of Fetter. “Throughout the pandemic, our team has intentionally focused on caring for people and communities who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, including homeless people, migrant farm workers, housing residents social groups, minority communities, rural residents, the elderly and people with reduced mobility. Fetter will follow eligibility guidelines established by the FDA to provide the COVID-19 antiviral drug only to patients who are medically eligible for it. Symptomatic patients will receive rapid antigen tests and a healthcare professional will determine appropriate treatment based on age, vaccination status and medical history.

Fetter will offer free COVID-19 testing and antivirals to qualified individuals in Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton counties on the following schedule:
