KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WVLT) – The Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee has awarded $ 10 million in grants to more than 300 local organizations over the past decade, according to President Lee Martin.

“Some of these (organizations) have done things that have spread nationwide and some of them have set up other partnerships to leverage these funds to do great things,” Martin said. .

Most recently, the foundation awarded 21 groups thousands of dollars to expand physical, mental or spiritual assistance.

Recipients include Next step initiative in the Marble City area which received a grant of $ 5,000. The agency feeds the hungry and houses the homeless at no cost to those on the other side. In October, the group opened Noon’s House, a rent-free women’s rehabilitation home.

Co-founder Addie Ardach said the bills are starting to pile up for the group, so donations and grants are key to keeping the doors open.

“It’s a bit of a scary problem because we have to learn other ways to get donations,” Ardach said.

Organizations can receive up to $ 150,000 per apply at the East Tennessee Trinity Health Foundation.

The Trinity Health Foundation of East Tennessee was established as an independent foundation with the sale of Mercy Health Partners in 2011.

Over the years, the foundations that predate Trinity have raised and awarded over $ 30 million for many initiatives including “Geriatric Assessment, Obesity Prevention, School Clinics, Needy Care, nursing training, equipment and technology upgrades and community outreach ”.

Their next round of applications begins next February.
