Southern California Deputy DA Dies of Complications from COVID-19 | Health

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) – Orange County Assistant Attorney Kelly Ernby, who presented to the State Assembly as a Republican and had recently expressed his opposition to California’s vaccination warrants , died a week after telling friends she was sick with COVID -19.

“I lost a dear friend to complications from Covid,” Ben Chapman, president of the Republicans of Grand Costa Mesa, said on Twitter. “You have been just an inspiration to many of us here in Orange County.”

Ernby, a Huntington Beach resident, had served for more than a decade as an assistant prosecutor, working primarily on environmental law and consumer protection cases, the registry said.

Ernby ran to the assembly in 2020 as a “pro-business, pro-taxpayer, political outsider” who wanted to “bring conservative values ​​back to California.” After losing her main candidacy, she became active in local GOP politics, assuming leadership roles for the party’s constituency operations and voter registration committees.

The registry said Ernby frequently commented on Twitter about his opposition to the warrants for COVID-19 vaccines. During a Dec. 4 rally in Irvine against vaccination warrants, Cal State Fullerton’s Daily Titan newspaper reported that Ernby drew parallels between the 1960s and today, saying that in both eras the people risked losing their freedoms in the face of what she called socialist ideals.

She was expected to run for public office again in 2022.

Ernby is survived by her husband, Axel.
