Supervisors appoint county executive

Following a closed-door board meeting today, the Sacramento County Board of Directors unanimously agreed to appoint Acting County Director Ann Edwards as Director of the county. The appointment is effective September 14, 2021.

Edwards is the first woman appointed to the county leadership position.

“I am pleased to report that the board of directors voted unanimously to appoint Ann Edwards as county manager, said fourth district board chair and supervisor Sue Frost. “Ann has proven to be an exceptional Acting County Executive and has ensured organizational stability, improved communication and built trust inside and outside the organization. ”

Edwards’ accomplishments during his seven-month tenure as Interim / Interim County Executive include increasing transparency in the budget process, organizing a process for a spending plan to provide county and community assistance with American Rescue Plan Act funds; and increased engagement with local government and community organizations.

“I appreciate and thank the Board of Directors for the trust and support they have shown me,” said Edwards. “I am committed to looking at the organization of the county from a new perspective, to pursue a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, to increase transparency and public engagement and to enrich the organizational culture of the county.”

Edwards’ current and upcoming initiatives include the formation of a public safety and justice agency, increased public engagement and a new budget process for fiscal year 2022-2023, and the implementation of training on bias implicit across the county.

About Ann Edwards:

Edwards has been the Acting County Manager since December 2020 and the Acting County Manager since February 2021. Prior to that she worked as the Sacramento County Human Assistance Manager since 2014 and worked as the County Social Services Manager for the county. by Solano. Prior to Solano County, she worked for Sacramento County between 1998 and 2013, as Deputy County Director General for County-wide Services, Director of Health and Human Services, Director of Health and Social Services. mental health, division manager for adult mental health and program manager for children and family mental health.

Edwards holds a master’s degree in counselor education and a bachelor’s degree in social work from California State University, Sacramento.
